Overview of Heard Island and McDonald Islands
Heard Island and McDonald Islands is an uninhabited external territory of Australia in the southern Indian Ocean, and one of the few places on Earth with active volcanoes in a sub-Antarctic setting.
Context
The territory has no permanent population and no commercial infrastructure. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, valued as one of the few sub-Antarctic ecosystems largely free of introduced species.
Access is by sea and requires authorisation, with visits limited almost entirely to scientific expeditions.
What Investors Should Note
There is no commercial market. Fisheries in surrounding waters are managed under international arrangements.
This page exists for directory completeness rather than as an investment market overview.
