Research Triangle

The Research Triangle is formed by Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, named for the three research universities at its corners. Research Triangle Park, established in the late 1950s, is one of the largest research parks in the United States.

The region's identity is built on the transfer of university research into commercial companies, particularly in the life sciences.

A growing venture community with meaningful university-affiliated and state-supported funding, alongside corporate venture arms attached to the large pharmaceutical and technology employers in the park. Later-stage capital more often comes from outside the region.
